In the mail tonight was 1, count 'em, er, count it, ONE ball of Chinchilla. Six still outstanding. Or eight, I can't remember. I hope I'm not going to get them ALL one at a time . . .

I finished the green one and started casting on the purple one.

The pattern, such as it is, is this:

Cast on 160. I use size 10 needles to cast on, for a really loose edge, then knit off onto a size 6 circular (29") needle. Knit every row until the scarf is about 6" wide, then cast off using a size 10 needle so the edges don't pull in.

Casting on (and off) that many stitches is a pain, but I think it makes a nicer looking scarf than one knit end to end. I don't use quite two balls of Chinchilla; probably about one and two-thirds. It's not an exact science, whatever works for you and looks right.

The problem with starting making Christmas gifts so early is that you can't really talk about them in any detail. Like, who exactly they're for, and what colors are for who, and why . . .

Anyway, I'm almost finished with the third one (oregano), and the Chinchilla for the fourth one (plum) is ready to go. If I finish that one before the rest of the Chinchilla gets here from Pattern Works, then I can start on the hot water bottle cover. If not, there will be another four (I think) scarves to finish first . . .

I'm working on the Oregano (green) Chinchilla scarf now. If knitting the Fawn one was like knitting a teddy bear, this one is like knitting topiary.
