When I ordered the Lush from KnitPicks, I also ordered one ball of Portrait to make the $30 free shipping limit, but it didn't come. I'm assuming it was out of stock, but there's no way to tell from the packing list. So I guess I'll be calling them on Monday.

I finished another Chinchilla scarf, this time in Fawn. It felt like I was knitting a teddy bear. As much of a pain as that stuff is to knit, it makes an incredible fabric. So heavy and drapey and soft.

I ordered about a hundred dollars of it from Patternworks, and my order arrived today, except that I only got two skeins. Everything else was out of stock, which really annoys me. It seems ridiculous that they can't upgrade their shopping cart to know what's actually in their inventory. Sure, they could run out of something and not have it, but I ordered five colors and only one was in stock.

I'm tempted to cancel the rest of it, but they already charged me for the whole shipping cost.

The Lush Angora for the hot water bottle cozy arrived last night. I got the box out of the mailbox, and it was dark and I couldn't read the return address, but the box was so light that I assumed it must be something else. I didn't feel like there was anything in it at all!

But there were four skeins of angora in there. KnitPicks had one color on special: Grasshopper. It's sort of a greenish-yellowish-grey. It actually looks like nothing so much as some other color that's been lying in the sun in a shop window for about 80 years.

Well, maybe not that bad. But probably not a color I would pick if all the other colors hadn't been over twice as much . . .

Monday, January 20, 2003:

I was feeling a little bit of buyer's remorse over the big ball of cream colored yarn, mostly because I just bought it because it was pretty, and have absolutely no idea what I'm going to do with it.

I did a little bit of research this morning and figured out that it's a Henry's Attic yarn, one called "Shahrazade." I still don't know what I'm going to do with it, but it makes me feel a little bit better to actually know what it is ("68% rayon, 32% cotton, thick and thin, seed yarn").

Sunday, January 19, 2003:

I had fun yesterday.

I called the yarn shop, because it's about 45 minutes away, and I didn't want to make the drive if they didn't have the Mosaico in the color I needed. The clerk said she would have to call me back, because they were swamped! This was about 20 minutes after they opened.

She eventually (about a half hour later) called me back, said they did have it, and apologized for taking so long to call me back, but that they were really busy. So I drove out, and got the Mosaico to finish the scarf, plus two balls of another color (kind of a dark red and green mix). They had one ball of a dark red Chinchilla that I've been looking for, but only one; I got it anyway, plus a hank of Glacé in the same color and a ball of Charm. I'll play around with it and decide whether to make a scarf with those three things, or just wait and get another ball of the red Chinchilla later.

And one impulse purchase--a huge skein (that they wound into a ball for me) of a cream colored cotton/rayon yarn--very light, kind of slubby. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it, but it seemed like too good a deal to pass up--480 yards for $11.50--and it's really beautiful.

So even though it was about 4 degrees out yesterday, I've got my yarn to keep me warm . . .
