Also in the mail last night was my copy of Handpaint Country, which Amazon has at 30% off ($27.97), plus they're offering free shipping for orders over $25.00. I had a $20.00 gift certificate someone had given me for doing them a favor, so I got it for $7.97!

I wrote that post below before I got home and got the mail. In the mailbox was a small, squishy package from France, like something small wrapped in bubblewrap. France? I turned it over and over in my hand on the way back from the mailbox, thinking, "Who do I know in France??"

It was the Al-Pa-Ka! From Katherine, who I had NO idea lived in France, or, well, I probably couldn't have kept her from sending it to me, but I would have felt much more guilty. Anyway, I am truly grateful, and truly blessed by how the internet has made it an even smaller world, after all.

A nice person on the knitting blogs list searched through her stash and found a ball and a half of Oxford Grey Al-Pa-Ka, so I'm working on the seaman's scarf again. It's going really quickly, and I love knitting with my one pair of Brittany walnut needles. I didn't think I would like them at first, because with the decorative carving on the ends, they're longer than the birch ones. But I like them a lot. I'm about half finished with the scarf; I'll try to take a picture of it tonight.
