After checking out the library's copy and renewing it as many times as they would let me (3), I finally ordered my own copy of Christmas Stockings: 18 Holiday Treasures to Knit.

It has the pattern for the Sock Monkey Stocking in it, as well as several others I'd like to make, including a pattern for mini stocking ornaments.

One of the advantages of buying grab bags and $1.00 orphan balls of yarn off the discount tables is getting the opportunity to try different kinds of yarn without making a large monetary or time investment.

Right now I'm swatching (playing around with) a ball of Heirloom Easy Care 8-Ply from Australia.

It makes a great, solid-feeling fabric--probably too heavy for me for a sweater, but I think it would make a wonderful bag.
