Fake Dog
Stephen King on killing off characters in his books:
King recalled that when he had a character kick a dog to death in his novel "The Dead Zone," he received more letters of complaint than ever, to his surprise.
"You want to be nice and say 'I'm sorry you didn't like that,' but I'm thinking to myself number one, he was a dog not a person, and number two, the dog wasn't even real," he said."I made that dog up, it was a fake dog, it was a fictional dog, but people get very, very involved," King said.

Sanskrit
I liked this line from an article about Vedic Philosophy & Tesla:
There are words in Sanskrit that describe concepts totally foreign to the western mind. Single words may require a full paragraph for translation into english.
It makes me want to make up a word, but I can't think of any at the moment . . .

Enthusiasm
If you've ever been to a really large newsstand, you know how many of those magazines there are. They have magazines for extreme sports that you've never heard of, often sports with 'kite-' in their names -- kite-boarding, kite-tying, kite-fighting. There are magazines for people who build scale models of things, and people who re-enact things, and people who use yarn in baroque and unexpected ways.
