Wednesday, May 03, 2006:

I was reading blogs yesterday and saw a camera phone pic that someone had snapped from the car showing the guy in the car next to her brushing his teeth. I can't remember where it was, or I'd link to it. I haven't seen that, but this morning when the car next to me started drifting over into my lane I braked, honked, and glanced over to see a woman looking in the rearview mirror and applying foundation with a make-up sponge.

I slowed down and let her get in front of me, and I followed her all the way downtown, watching as she applied the rest of her make-up, and somehow managed to avoid running into anyone, although I'm not sure how, since she continued to drift all over the road.

Amazing. They'll do their whole faces. Ever see anybody reading? The radio DJs were talking about having seen a woman actually reading a book as she was driving on the highway at normal speeds.

I've seen people with newspapers held up over the steering wheel. It'll be interesting if they ever actually outlaw talking on cell phones in cars -- I know they're a problem, but as far as I can tell, they're not the worst of it.

Astounding. I used to follow a woman in to work every day who was curling her hair in the car, using both hands much of the time. She, too, was drifting all over the place. About the time I decided I was going to take her license plate number and report her, she stopped showing up. I've always wondered if she got in an accident.
