Good advice at any time, I suppose:

CNN.com - Thousands of Americans unaccounted for - Dec 29, 2004: "Call your mother. This is a time where people who know they're hundreds of miles away from ... where the disaster might have occurred need to call home and tell their relatives, who know it's only a quarter-inch on the map."

The best links I've found for information on the tsunami disaster in Southeast Asia:

DaisyPath : Free Anniversary Announcement

This is kind of sweet: DaisyPath : Free Anniversary Announcement. I saw it on someone's web page -- code to count down to a wedding anniversary (or vacation). These little snippets of code are always fun.

Cloned Cat Sale Generates Ethics Debate

I'm not a fan of cloning, but if I was going to argue about it (which I'm not), this wouldn't be the reason:

Yahoo! News - Cloned Cat Sale Generates Ethics Debate : "Critics also complain that the technology is available only to the wealthy, that using it to create house pets is frivolous and that customers grieving over lost pets have unrealistic expectations of what they're buying."

There are a lot of things that are available only to the wealthy. Does the fact that I can't afford a Jaguar mean that they should stop making them? And of course it's frivolous. So what? If I had the money and wanted to spend it on a cloned cat, whose business is that, if the only objection is that it's frivolous? I buy a lot of frivolous things. I have WAY too many pairs of earrings, probably, and I throw away a half dozen magazines a week some weeks. As they say, it's nobody's business but my own.

Not your normal Christmas music

New entry up at the Journal. It's getting very close to Christmas! We're going out tonight to buy gifts for the pets, plus white elephant gifts for our Christmas lunch at work Thursday. Bob's out right now doing his shopping for me. He calls periodically to tell me how he's progressing.

New entry

There's a new entry at the journal. We just got back from vacation and I've been madly Christmas shopping. We put up the tree tonight, skipped a party last night, going out to dinner Wednesday, Christmas lunch on Thursday, and on and on . . .

Journal Post

I just uploaded a new entry at the Journal. Since I'm not publishing any kind of a feed of the journal, I thought I might try posting a notice here so that people who are subscribed to this blog don't have to check the journal manually. That's the thought, anyway. Also, there's a new contest, probably only of interest to knitters (or maybe people who know a knitter).
