Cloned Cat Sale Generates Ethics Debate

I'm not a fan of cloning, but if I was going to argue about it (which I'm not), this wouldn't be the reason:

Yahoo! News - Cloned Cat Sale Generates Ethics Debate : "Critics also complain that the technology is available only to the wealthy, that using it to create house pets is frivolous and that customers grieving over lost pets have unrealistic expectations of what they're buying."

There are a lot of things that are available only to the wealthy. Does the fact that I can't afford a Jaguar mean that they should stop making them? And of course it's frivolous. So what? If I had the money and wanted to spend it on a cloned cat, whose business is that, if the only objection is that it's frivolous? I buy a lot of frivolous things. I have WAY too many pairs of earrings, probably, and I throw away a half dozen magazines a week some weeks. As they say, it's nobody's business but my own.
