What We Carry
***

Like others, I go from brief to bulky, depending on my mood and needs. Basic essentials include: keyring with house and car keys which is attached to a hand-sized fold-over money and card/driver's license billfold (I especially like this 'cause I can grab it for quick errands or snack-attack runs), another small keyring purse for work keys and work ID card;

--my journal which includes calendar and planner, addresses, notes (esp. lists of books I want to read and movies and videos I want to see or rent, places to eat, etc.);

--a bunch of favorite pens and pencils (contained in an eyeglass holder);

--a miniature FM/AM radio, an electronic address/notekeeper/calculator (about the size of a small makeup compact which duplicates basic info in the journal & suffices if I can't fit journal into a smaller purse); and a credit-card sized flashlight;

--sunglasses, lipstick, gas-x, tic-tacs, mirror, hair lift, hand lotion and pocket kleenix, small pillbox;

--a small poetry or meditation booklet in a smaller purse; in a larger purse, I'll carry a book like one of the Mitford series, Something More, or Journal to the Self; and/or one of those grocery store "Happiness" booklets with crossword puzzles;

--various papers: Rx's, first pages of internet sites found at work that I want to continue to research at home, coupons, etc.

Sometimes I'll carry my CD player and a couple of extra CDs, but only if I know I'm going to be working in the archives where I'll be alone, or at Christmas time to listen to Christmas CDs.

That's about it. I like to find small things so that my purse isn't too bulky or heavy (like the credit card flashlight was a real find for me--waiting for radios to come out in credit card size).
