I found a neat black nylon bag on a string at TJMAXX. It is actually a small DOPP kit with double zippers and a flip down front with clear and net type compartments. I love it! They sell similar bags at Target in the sports department. My list of essentials: Small burgundy leather clutch wallet (cash,cards,coins) Plastic cave in flat brush that I found at Sally Supply 3 Tissues Checkbook size calendar/one month per two pages. 5 loose checks/carbons clipped to the back page. 5 blank 3x5 cards clipped to the back of the front page. PEN clipped to calendar (one end yellow marker/one pen) 2oz Bottle of Target brand *purell* type hand cleaner. 2 section plastic flat pack (Tuppware) pill holder for Tylenol and Percogesic (RED!) Tin of Altoids-Original Flavor (never go without em!) Small pot o clear lip gloss (ultra pure lanolin-all purpose) Clinique lipsticks 1 in Guava Stain and 1 in Buff Clinique lip pencil - natural Small Revlon metal nail file Tiny Swiss Army knife (tweezers&toothpick!) Lucky Susan B.Anthony silver dollar coin (I got it on Christmas Day at a store and it had my wedding year on it - 1979) Lucky Georgia Buckeye (my Grandmother gave it to me) KEYS!! Flat 4 screw thingy from Sears Craftsman Martial Arts Wood Defense Stick (6inches) tiny glasses screwdriver GEORGIA license tag/name key ring ~CATHY~ (heavier type plastic - handmade at a GA vendor) COMPASS!! (hangs off the front of bag to guide my way, military issue - floating style and designed to be worn on a watch. It really works! THERMOMETER!! (Lands End -taken off a coat and placed on my bag with compass- quite handy!) I need to find a nice tiny squeeze type flashlight...I found my maglight mini to be heavy and awkward to use when hanging on my bag. I clean out my bag once a week. A doctor friend of mine looked at my *stuff* once and said he could do surgery, repair a car and go on a trip with the things that I carry! I also carry a small TOTE BAG with me for other larger essentials. I think it is imperative to have a book or two with me at all times! I also keep a 5x7 notepad in a vinyl cover folder w/ pen for notes to myself or even a spontaneous letter to a friend! My tote bag usually has an apple or two in it and a diet coke and paper napkin. I pop my journal in the tote bag if I think I might have a few moments to write in it....A few CDs for the car. Cell Phone and extra batteries. Pistol (yes it is loaded and I am trained in safety&defense) working flashlight, current map of Georgia. I need to get an updated map of the Atlanta area - roads change around here so fast!! I like to think of myself as prepared.
