About Me
Name: Willa Cline
Location: Overland Park, Kansas, United States
I'm a webpage designer for an interactive firm. I also read, design and make jewelry, collect tarot cards, knit socks, drink tea, make soap, and write, not necessarily in that order.
We've got these yellow planet aid boxes in our area of Michigan. Where do the clothes and shoes go? These donation drop offs haven't been around very long. I just noticed them in our area about 3 months ago.
Love when you post pictures here. I usually check your journal/blog a few times a week and if you haven't updated then I check out the mobile blog. Time to get something done around here. Have been lazy lazy lazy. Raining here and very gloomy. So I've been curled up with a good book :)
This box was placed by Planet Aid (http://www.planetaid.org) and says that they sell the donated items and use the profit to help people in developing countries. The website indicates that they run thrift shops. In any event, I've had bad experiences tryng to get people to come to the house to pick up donations (I've called a couple of different places and had them fail to show up), and this was the only donation box of any kind we could find. Even if they're selling it, I figure it's better than just throwing it away, right? :)
These boxes are owned and operated by a corporation known as Tvind. In 2003 the IRS reported that the corporation received 6.6 million dollars in donation but only 600,000 went to charities. A man by the name of Peterson founded Tvind in 1977 and has been brought up on charges in Denmark and is under investigation in other countries in Europe. Reference www.rickross.com/reference/groups/tvind.html None of the monies made by selling the clothing that you are donating stays in your community.
i live in connecticut and work for charitiesofhope.org The owner john makes 0 dollars a year. But We are on of the only ones like this. The owner of planet aid isnt even aloud in his own country, he is a scum bag who is deciving the public, Most of these box people. Like lets say it says St vincent de paul on the box, it is not them. it is a for profit company called CMRK who rents the name for 5000 a year and then makes millions off people. Make sure the box says non profit and call your states Department of public charities to find out who is the real deal.

Some of these donation boxes are just companies that take the donations and resell them for profit. Be careful.
