Miscellanea
I updated my Cafe Press store last night. I wanted to order one of the tile coasters for myself, so I made one, then went ahead and designed a mug, a mousepad, a tote bag (that one came out very nice!), and a clock. And then I saw that they were offering an insulated lunch bag, so I made one of those, too, although I decided to make it say "Willa's Lunch," since I doubt that anyone else would want one that said "Willa's Journal," either. Of course, anyone can buy one, it's just going to say, "Willa's Lunch" . . .
And yes, I moved the moon.
I've started forwarding all my spam email to the Federal Trade Commission. The email address is uce@ftc.gov. I ran across the address in the article that I cannot now recall or find, but the article said that the FTC gets upwards of 10,000 forwarded email messages a day. So whether or not it will ever make a difference, I don't know, but it makes me feel that at least I'm doing something to combat the problem.
I've been going to the library a lot lately; I usually just get fiction, but I've also been browsing the knitting book section. There are several different branch libraries that I frequent, and I can never remember exactly where in the stacks the needlework books are, so I end up wandering, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it wastes time if I'm in a hurry.
A couple of weeks ago I asked a librarian if they had a printed list of the Dewey Decimal numbers so I could go right to the section I was interested in, and she looked at me like I was nuts, and said no as if she'd never been asked that before.
Card catalogs don't exist anymore, and while there are quite a few computers in the libraries now, they're almost always busy on the weekends. It seems dumb to wait around for a computer to look up a number, so I looked around on the web until I found a listing, then made my own Palm Doc for my Visor. If anyone else would find them useful, you can download them here.
dewey.pdb is a listing of the Dewey Decimal numbers. dewey_alpha.pdb is Dewey reversed--an alphabetical list of common topics, listing the Dewey Decimal number where that topic is located. You'll need to have the free Palm Reader installed on your handheld computer to use them.
When I turn my cell phone on in the morning, the display says, "Be sensible." Bob has the same cellular provider I do, and I asked him once if his phone says that, too. He said no, he doesn't need a reminder; he said that they must have made that one just for me.
The Dewey Decimal Guide was taken from this site and the alphabetical listing was from this one.
