I took the plunge and joined a health club. I decided that the "women only" format was
important to me, so I didn't even bother to visit any of the other clubs in the area. I
used to belong to a club years ago that's changed ownership a couple of times, so I stopped
there on Monday night and talked to the manager. It's a
Club La Femme now.
The facility is a little old, but they're keeping it up nicely, and they have the whole
pool/hot tub/sauna set-up, which I wanted, and I really liked the manager. She didn't
give me the BS that the girl at the other club did, i.e., she didn't tell me that there
was one price if I signed up immediately, and another price if I wanted to think about it,
she just told me what it cost and let me decide among several payment plans.
I went ahead and signed a two year contract, payable monthly. It would be cheaper to
pay it all at once, but a) I don't really have that much to spare all in one lump, and
b) I figured it would be easier just to stop paying if they go out of business or
something, and almost impossible to get it back if I'd already paid in advance.
I've got an appointment with a personal trainer on Thursday night to get a program set
up. I'm going to go ahead and bite the bullet and do it, rather than just sticking with
my original thought and going it alone (which they said I could do, no problem).
If nothing else, I know I need to do the cardio
workout, and the weight machines will be good for me, too. I used to like them when
I used them before. There's an aqua aerobics class that I think I might take, and a
couple of yoga classes. I'm going to ease into it gradually, but I'm looking forward
to it. I went out today and bought a bright, shiny new combination lock for my locker--it
felt a little like the first day of school!
