Day out
I don't understand it, but it seems like every weekend, I plan to sleep in, but I never can. And not for any outside reason--that would be understandable--but I just spontaneously wake up at about the same time that I get up during the week, and can't go back to sleep. That makes sense, of a sort, but during the week, I could (and sometimes do) easily go back to sleep, but no matter how long I laid there this morning, I couldn't manage it. So I ended up getting up at about 7:30. What a waste.
I had a fun day, though. Last night I had watched most of The Princess Diaries, which I'd gotten from the library last week and hadn't yet watched. I stopped it to go watch Monk on television, then fell asleep on the couch and was to sleepy to finish it by the time I woke up, and just stumbled up to bed.
So I finished watching that this morning (I enjoyed it, very cute!), then showered and got dressed and headed out at around 11:00. I went to the post office and mailed off Halloween cards (with creepy bat stamps!), went to the library and returned a bunch of books and got more, and also got some more DVD's (Waking Ned Devine, James and the Giant Peach, and Gone in Sixty Seconds). I usually don't make it to the library until early afternoon on Saturdays, and there are never any good DVD's. I guess the secret is getting there early . . .
Then I drove out to Lawrence to The Yarn Barn, where I returned a couple of balls of wool that I bought last weekend, since I decided I didn't really want wool socks, and the cotton "Fixation" yarn I also bought last weekend has turned out to be so much more fun to knit with. I bought enough Fixation to make two more pairs of socks, another set of needles so I can knit two socks at the same time (theoretically), then I walked a block over to Weaver's, a department store, who happened to have a Clinique promotion going on.
I'd missed the last one here in town, sort of on purpose, because I really didn't need anything and I've been trying not to make frivolous purchases (no, yarn is not frivolous), but since then I've been worried about running out of toner, and hated to buy it and not get anything free for it. So I was pleased to see the sign in the window, and bought toner and some hand cream, and got a cute orange and yellow vinyl bag with a bunch of free, tiny cosmetics in it.
I also hit the bookstore out there and bought a couple of paperbacks, then came back into town and went to Target, where I spent about $40, almost entirely on candy and Halloween socks . . . Oh, and a couple pairs of those stretchy miracle gloves, and some Diet Coke, and some fuzzy black mohair kitty ears . . .
It was a fun day.
Tonight I'm making macaroni and cheese for my dinner--one of the very few things that I will actually make for myself from scratch--and I'll probably watch one of the movies I got. Bob just called--his friend is making curried shrimp for dinner, and then they're going to go out and fish tonight. The cats and I will probably fall asleep on the couch again, but that's okay. That's one of the little treats we allow ourselves when Bob's out of town.
