Shopping therapy
I had a terrific time at Target on Saturday. I bought a TON of Halloween stuff--two big bags of candy, one for home and one for the office, and several wooden door decorations.
The one I got for the front door is reversible--the back is painted, too, so after Halloween I can turn it over and it's just a plain pumpkin, not a jack o'lantern. I think the message part says, "Welcome," too, instead of "Trick or Treat."
I got a black cat sitting a moon that's hanging on the wall next to the fireplace, a pumpkin and black cat that I have above the bulletin board at my desk at home, and a "Happy Halloween" spider that I've got hanging on my office door at work. I saw my mother-in-law while I was shopping, and felt kind of guilty about all the stuff I was buying; I said I know all these things will be half price or less in a couple of weeks, but I couldn't resist.
Of course, it wasn't that I couldn't resist, but it was fun, and Halloween gets me through the first fall month, when getting up while it's still dark and dressing for cold weather start to get me down. Of course, October is also the anniversary of the happiest day of my life (our wedding anniversary), as Bob keeps reminding me. 26 years this year. He's celebrating by going hunting and fishing . . . Yes, yes, he's taking me to dinner the night before, and I don't really mind.
If I did mind, he'd change his plans with no problem, and no grumbling. He does love the Fall. It's his favorite season. He loves the cool, overcast weather, he doesn't mind the cold, and he doesn't mind the gloom. He loves the outdoors, and loves to go hunting and tromp around in the woods, while I'm much happier snuggled on the couch with a cat in front of the fire. But I'm happy that he enjoys it, and glad when he gets the opportunity to go. I'm just glad I don't have to go with him. I get to stay home, snuggling with the cats in front of the fire.
I take care of Barbara Bretton's website; she asked me to put up some Halloween decorations this month, and while I was looking for some new Halloween clipart last night, I found a site that had a bunch of vintage Halloween postcards. Since her current design is based on old postcards, it seemed appropriate to replace them with Halloween ones. I was very happy with the result.
