Insult to injury
When Bob's out of town, it takes Pyewacket about four days to decide he must not be coming back at all, so she might as well take what she's got and be nice to me.
Normally she sleeps with Bob, cradled in his arm, with her head on his pillow. When he's gone and it's just me, she sleeps on the very end of the bed, as far away from me as possible. It's like, "I'll sleep on the bed, but I'm not going to act like I like you or anything."
That's what she's done all week, but last night was apparently the cut-off point; sometime in the early hours of the morning, 2:00 or 3:00, she came up and woke me up by standing on me. I assumed it was Dinah, since that's currently her preferred method of waking me up, but it was Pye, wanting to be cuddled. I lifted up the covers and she got down inside, I put my arm around her and she put her head on my pillow, started purring, and we went back to sleep.
Everything was fine until 5:30, when I woke up with a terrible leg cramp. One of those awful ones that you have to get up and walk on to make it go away. I jumped out of bed, crying, "Ow, ow, ow!" and as I'm limping around the bedroom, Pyewacket ran over and bit me on the back of the leg!
When Bob called me this morning, I told him about it, and he said, "Did you hit her?" I said, "Of course I didn't hit her!" It just made me laugh, it was so ridiculous. When my leg finally stopped hurting, I picked her up and took her back to bed and told her I was sorry I woke her up so abruptly, and tried to get her to lay with me again, but after about a minute she went back to her regular place at the bottom of the bed. "Hey, I tried to be nice to you, but you're just too weird!"
The last time she did that--bit me--was a few weeks ago when I yelled at Dinah for something. I can't remember what it was, and we try not to yell at Dinah unless we absolutely can't help it (she's so sensitive, you know), but I remember just being terribly frustrated about something and it was like the last straw. I yelled at Dinah to knock off whatever she was doing, and Pyewacket ran over and nipped me on the ankle. Which completely shocked me, and it made me laugh that time, too.
So I don't know what she's reacting to, exactly--maybe she gets upset when I act like I'm upset, or maybe she's just annoyed, which would explain last night's, but not really the other time. That time we thought maybe she was protecting Dinah, but I don't think that's very likely.
I finally got around to making a home page for Rare Peace. Actually, I've tried a couple of times and just couldn't figure out what the focus should be. I sat down last night, though, and played around with fonts and backgrounds and found something I can live with for awhile. Since it now has an actual first page, I took off the redirect that was sending it directly to the Fallen Angel weblog. So in case you had that page bookmarked and now can't figure out what's happening, that's what's happening . . .
