Since my birthday is on Saturday, and tomorrow is Thanksgiving and
we'll be closed tomorrow and Friday, Julia brought brownies to work, and
I got taken out for lunch today. Eight of us went to a little Mexican
restaurant that I like--we
hadn't been there in quite awhile, although I used to go there all the
time when we worked at the other office. Eddye liked it.
When we walked in, Gard told a waiter that it was my birthday, but either
it didn't register, or he didn't understand, because I was somehow spared
having to wear a sombrero and be sung to; nor did Cello sing his traditional
Happy Birthday song in Portuguese. I'm sort of sad about that. Maybe next
week . . .
Misty had told me that her cats had begun to be very obnoxious about kitty
treats, waking her up in the middle of the night crying, and then when she
gets up to see what's wrong, racing over to the counter where the treats are
kept and looking up expectantly. I told her not to worry, that I would
definitely reinforce that and spoil them rotten while she was gone this
week.
I had actually forgotten about it, but on Tuesday night when I went over,
I noticed the little kitty treat canister and picked it up to give them a
few. They rushed over and sat, looking up at me, as I opened it . . .
Empty.
We were all so disappointed.
So I stopped at the grocery store on the way over tonight and bought them
some, then we sat and watched Wheel of Fortune. Misty left the televison
on for them, and I wasn't sure whether or not I should change the channel.
This afternoon I sat down and forced myself, with the help of several
articles at
Zeldman.com,
to figure out how to create a table-less web page, depending solely on stylesheets
for the layout. As tired as I am of reading about standards compliance, I have to
admit that Zeldman really does know his stuff, and explains things awfully well.
It took me awhile to get something exactly the way I want it, but I finally
did, and it really is extremely cool.
I doubt that this design will be the one I'm using by the time I switch over the first
of the year; I did three possible designs last night, and just needed something
to play around with today, but if you're interested, what I came up with is
here:
You can also look at the stylesheet, if you like that kind of
thing . . .
It works beautifully in IE 5.0 and Netscape 6, and is readable, but not perfect,
in Netscape 4.x.
