In the latest chapter of the medical drama that is my life lately, my sister went to the
emergency room with severe chest pains on Sunday, and is in the hospital in Denver with
blood clots in her lungs. As you might imagine, it's been pretty tense around here
the past couple of days, but she's doing well, the doctor says her lungs sound better
now, and she may get to go home in the next day or so.
I felt like I'd been holding my breath all day yesterday, and had a horrible
headache by the time I went home. I think it was just a combination of stress, not
having enough to eat during the day, and maybe some dehydration thrown in for good
measure. When I realized mid-afternoon what was going on with me, I tried to remedy
it by drinking a bunch of water and eating a cup of yogurt, but by then it was too
late, and I couldn't counteract it.
I called Bob on my way home and asked him if he could fix me something to eat, and when
I got home he was sliding an omelet out of the pan, made with black olives and some
wonderful smoky cheese that I love, and he had made creamed spinach. In case that wasn't
enough, he had also cooked a piece of fish for me, but I brought that for lunch
today, with leftover spinach.
After dinner, I had a long, hot bath--Bob's destressing suggestion--and went to bed
fairly early. I feel better today, but still have some lingering effects of the
headache.
I went out to fill the birdfeeders on Sunday, and noticed that my daffodils were
blooming. They're in the backyard, right up against the house, so I can't see them
from a window, and I seldom go out in the backyard until summer. So I was glad
I noticed them. I cut a half dozen of them to bring in to work yesterday.
When I called the florist to order flowers for Ann (my sister) yesterday, I asked them to send
spring flowers; when she called my mom last night she had already received them, and
from the description it sounds like they sent her spring bulbs--crocuses and
jonquils and something else that I can't remember now. Which is pretty cool--I wouldn't
have thought to ask for bulbs, but maybe they'll last longer than cut flowers, and I
always adore bulbs in the house--they smell so wonderful.
