Sunny

The last few days have been rough; I've been feeling sluggish and tired, and when I get finished with work all I want to do is go home and go to bed. Well, eat dinner and go to bed, often feeling like going to bed right after dinner, but I force myself to stay up awhile and do email or read, often falling asleep in my chair while reading.

Last night I came into the living room and laid down on the couch for awhile while Bob was watching basketball, and fell asleep there. I got up around midnight and stumbled up to bed, and then remembered that when I had fallen asleep, the television had been on, and I couldn't remember for sure if it was off or not when I went upstairs; I knew I hadn't turned it off.

I walked by the office to tell Bob I was going to bed, and I asked him if he had turned the television off. He said yes, that he'd come down sometime earlier and talked to me, told me I should probably go up to bed, and turned off the television. I sort of vaguely remembered that, but not really.

Pyewacket is funny in the night; she's gotten into the habit of sleeping right in between us; many times I'll wake up and we're all scrunched together in the middle of the bed, Pye in between us. Early this morning she crept up to be cuddled, and I pulled her over by me so she wouldn't disturb Bob. She really wants to be by Bob, and what she really wants is to chew on his fingers or lick him, which he hates, so if she does that, she usually ends up tossed out of bed.

So I pulled her over by me, and let her lick my hand and chew on my fingers. I don't mind, I actually think it's kind of sweet. She usually won't do it to me, anyway, so it's not like I'm encouraging her or anything. We think she thinks Bob is her mother.

Misty sent me a "Happy Spring!" e-card this morning, which reminded me that I had intended to send her one this morning, too, but got distracted.

I had gone to mac.com to see if there was anything appropriate, and then noticed that if you're a .mac member, you can download a free virus protection program (Virex). I have Norton AntiVirus, and viruses (virii?) on a Mac are pretty non-existent anyway, but I figured free, why not? So I downloaded it, and then clicked on the installer, and it asked if I wanted to do a virus scan before installing it? I said no, since I'd done a Norton scan recently, but then the next window said something like, "We strongly recommend you do a virus scan before installing the virus program," and I think the only selection you were given was "Okay," so I said, "Okay."

And then, it took forever.

And then, the coffee pot boiled over.

I'd gotten up to go make coffee and get the paper while the virus scan was going on, and when I came back in from getting the paper, the coffee maker was making a weird sizzling sound and steam was coming out the top.

Apparently the urn wasn't seated correctly on the burner, so it was in the mode where you can remove the carafe and pour a cup of coffee while the remaining brewing coffee backs up in the filter holder thing. Except what was happening was that all of the hot coffee was backing up in the filter holder thing, and none was making it into the pot. So of course there wasn't room for it, and it had started spewing over--hot coffee and hot coffee grounds all over the counter, dripping down onto the floor . . .

Sigh.

Before I figured out what was happening, I called for Bob to come down and help me, but by the time he got downstairs, I had analyzed the situation and started cleaning it up.

And then I made another pot of coffee, and then went in to the computer to shut it down, since I needed to go upstairs and get ready for work, but the virus program hadn't finished YET.

So I went upstairs and dried my hair and got dressed, and came back down and it was finished, and wanted to know if I wanted to do the installation now, but I didn't have time, because who knew how long it would take? So I cancelled it and told the computer to shut down, but sometimes if I don't close everything first, it freezes, and I hadn't, and it did, of course, freeze.

And you can't just shut it OFF, the only option is to hit the restart button and wait for it to restart, and then shut it off (although I suppose I could just pull the plug, but that sounds awfully brutal), so I pushed the restart button and then sat there twiddling my thumbs while it did its thing, and then shut it down, and this time it took.

So, kind of a hectic morning, but the sun is shining, and it's the first day of Spring.

Happy Spring!
