New Moon

Sick. Ugh.

I woke up Thursday morning with a sore throat. I always try to tell myself that it's just a sore throat--maybe I slept with my mouth open or something--but it's almost always a precursor to a cold, and this time was no exception.

It got worse overnight, and by Friday morning it was awful. I stayed home from work, drank tea, read, slept, knitted, played a little Sims on the computer, watched a movie (Men in Black II), then Bob brought home Chinese food for dinner and I went to bed early.

Yesterday, Saturday, wasn't too bad, I went out and ran errands (bank, post office, library, Target), but by mid-afternoon I was feeling yucky. Last night was the worst. The evening was spent sneezing and coughing, and I slept a little while in the basement with Pye, then when I finally went to bed, I couldn't sleep. I was trying to sleep with a cough drop in my mouth to keep me from coughing, but I kept waking up afraid I'd get it stuck my throat and choke to death . . .

I woke up at one point and Bob wasn't in bed with me; it turns out he slept in his chair part of the night because I was too restless and making too much noise coughing and snoring. Yuck. He finally came back to bed, then ended up getting up again early in the morning and going down to sleep in the basement. I got up at about the same time, settled in my chair with an afghan over my legs and Dinah on my lap, and got another several hours of sleep sitting up, which is probably what I should have done in the first place.

I felt really awful when I got up at 6:00 a.m. or so, and wasn't sure I was going to even have a voice today, but after another few hours of sleep and a cup of tea, I feel a lot better.
