Sunday, March 25, 2001: Computer problems

I don't feel like I accomplished a lot today, but I did get some boxes taken to the basement, finished the laundry, and finished my first Flash assignment (click on the ".swf file" link). Not terribly impressive, I suppose (it doesn't actually do anything, i.e., move, but I learned some things.

It's hard work, but it's enjoyable, which is what makes it different from the CSS class I enrolled in, and withdrew from. That one was hard work, but no fun at all.

We've also been plagued by computer problems. There's the cable modem problem, the fact that the DVD player in Bob's computer doesn't work, and I'm now having some sort of weird Flash/IE problem. I went to a Flash site the other night, and it told me I didn't have the Flash plug-in. I knew I did, so thought their programming was probably just wrong, and went to a site I knew worked (since I programmed it), and the Flash didn't work there, either.

So I shrugged and went to the Macromedia site and downloaded the plug-in again, and everything was fine, I could see the Flash on the sites I couldn't before.

I don't know what happened in the interim--I probably restarted, I'm guessing--but the next night, same thing. No Flash plug-in. I can't find anything about this specific problem at the Macromedia site, although there are apparently quite a few compatibility issues with the Mac/IE/Flash combination.
