Well, I didn't write yesterday, and only barely wrote anything the day before--I started
an entry that I intended to expand on later, but never did. So I didn't make my goal
of writing every day this month, but I definitely wrote a lot more, even so far, than I
did last month.
I started a new bag to felt using some bluish-green hand-dyed wool (not dyed by my
hands, but some that I bought; after I started knitting it I realized that I wasn't going
to have near enough yarn, and I tried to buy more, but the yarn store didn't have any,
and it wasn't possible to get more, since it was a one-off kind of deal. I still had
one hank of the celery yarn from the last bag, and one hank of natural that I hadn't
used, so I'm kind of fudging this one together.
I'm sort of considering the first one and this one as experiments--showing me how it
all works, what kind of shrinkage percentages happens, etc. I ordered more wool today,
enough for two more bags, now that I have a better handle on it. I ordered something
called "Autumn" that's a speckled kind of dark orange and green (or that's what it
looks like online, it may look nothing like that when I get it) and a "Teal" that
has a pale beige strand running through it that looks like it would felt up interestingly.
Ever since I finished Nightwing
last week, I haven't had anything to listen to in the car, and as luck would have it,
this is my public radio station's pledge week. And this is totally my own fault, but
with the CD changer in my trunk, I have to think about what I want to listen to before
I get in the car and start driving, and I haven't been able to make that connection
yet this week.
So I've been listening to the same stuff over and over which is, if I remember correctly,
David Knopfler's latest ("Wishbones"), Dave Alvin's "King of California," something of
Paul Young's (maybe "Love Songs"), something of Paul Carrack's--I have no idea what--"Blue
Views?"--"God Shuffled His Feet" (Crash Test Dummies), and something else that slips my
mind at the moment. A pretty good selection, really, but the Carrack one isn't really
driving music, it's more the kind of thing I want to listen to through headphones when I
need to drown out the world at work, and a little bit of CTD goes a long way.
So it's mostly been a two album rotation between
Wishbones
and King of California, both of
which I could listen to forever. And hey, I have been!
I got a notice this morning from the library that the audio CD version of Nevada Barr's
latest book, Flashback,
is waiting for me to pick up. I actually started reading the book a few weeks ago (I
had checked it out from the library, too), but
since I had quite a bit of stuff to read at the time, decided I'd put my name on the list
and listen to it instead. Partially because the book alternates viewpoints between present
day and Civil War, I think, and I have a really hard time reading historical stuff. I
think it might be easier for me to listen to. We'll see, I guess.
I'm very much looking forward to Harry Potter and the
Order of the Phoenix on Saturday, although not so much that I'll be camping out on
Friday night . . .
