Willa's Journal

Saturday, June 24, 2000: Gone to the dogs

Friday was Take Your Dog to Work Day, so this entry is going to almost all visual. Click each photograph for a larger version in a pop-up window.

All the dogs were pretty well-behaved, and they all seemed like very happy dogs. Maybe that's just a doggy quality, though. It was lots of fun. I guess I should start lobbying for a Bring Your Cat to Work Day, but I have a feeling that wouldn't come off quite so well.

There was one more dog there--Kram, a lovely little beagle--but I didn't get a picture of her awake, and the picture I took of her asleep didn't come out very well because I couldn't get very close to her. She's Cindy, the Office Manager's, dog, and Cindy asked me to be careful when I took her picture that I didn't wake her up, because if she woke up and found she was by herself, she would howl. Or bay, I guess is probably the correct term.

And Demond, who complained the other day that he's never in the journal, didn't bring his dog, Otis, because he said Otis isn't "people trained." I'd like to meet him, though. I've heard some good stories about him.

Every day is Bring Diehard to Work Day, of course, but I thought we needed a picture of him in here, too. Dave had to wake him up to bring him outside for the picture.

Cello and Sunshine
Cello and Sunshine (whose name is apparently related to a Grateful Dead song which, not being a Deadhead, I'm unaware of)
Eddye and Pauline
Eddye and the lovely Pauline, whom Eddye rescued from the pound just a few months ago.

Huck and Charlie
Huck and Charlie. Eddye's mom found him wandering around Kansas City, Kansas (Huck, not Charlie), and rescued him, and Charlie adopted him shortly thereafter.

Tracy and Lois
Tracy and Lois. Lois is difficult to describe without videotape. I don't think I've ever seen a dog move quite the way she does, i.e., most of the time her head and rear end don't seem to be moving in the same direction.
Julia and Abby
Julia and Abby (Eddye in the background struggling to control Pauline, who probably sees another dog in the distance.)

Huck and Dave
Dave and Huck. Everyone wants to pick Huck up. He's still a baby, his fur is incredibly soft, and he feels like a stuffed animal.
Pauline and Abby
Pauline and Abby getting to know each other.

Abby and Trent
Abby and Trent. Abby has a problem with hardwood floors. Here she's taking advantage of the safe haven offered by the area rug.
