Luck of the draw

Bob's birthday was in June, and I got an absolutely terrific deal on a color Handspring Visor Prism--Handspring stopped making them, and Franklin Covey had one left for $149. The original retail price was $449. They also had some back-up modules left, and the salesman gave me one of those (a 16 MB one with a retail value of, I think, about $60) for free.

My old monochrome one looked pretty sad next to it, but I wanted Bob to have one that was easy to use and easy to read, so I was very happy I found it. He was out of town when I bought it, so I sat down one evening and typed in all of his friends' names and addresses and birthdays, and all of his family's birthdays, and put some photographs in, and a couple of games.

I was so excited to give it to him, but as it turned out, he didn't want it.

I thought we had talked about it, and he had said he wanted one, but when we talked about it later, he said he had expressed some slight interest, yes, but he really didn't want anything that expensive because he felt like he wouldn't use it to that extent, and what he really wanted was a watch, and why didn't I keep it?

I felt terrible about it, but I got over it. We ordered him exactly the watch he wanted (a Swiss Army model from Cabela's), and once I have a chance to input all his business phone numbers, I'll give him my old one and I'm keeping the new one. It was just too good a deal to take it back . . .

I made a page of all my PDA URLs, mainly so I can visit the sites easily for updates, but also to share with anyone who's interested. I've downloaded a lot of stuff, tried it out, and I think I've got a pretty good mix now. I'm not currently using the modem--that turned out to be more of a pain than not; I think I'll wait for wireless now--so I don't have all the associated software for mail and web browsing, etc. I'm trying to keep everything under 8MB so it all fits on the Visor itself without expansion. We'll see how long I can make that work.
