Willa's Journal
Saturday, January 19, 2002: Being safe

We got the first snowfall of the year last night. It started snowing about 4:00 yesterday afternoon, and a light snowfall kept falling all night, apparently. It looks like we got maybe 3-4 inches. It's pretty, but kind of a pain to get around in, of course. Bob was out at a friend's house last night, and hadn't come home before I went to bed.

I took the cell phone up with me and left it on, beside the bed, and he called at about 1:00 and said he was on his way home, but that he was going to stay off the highways, so it would take him awhile. I was glad he called, and I was glad he was being safe.

I have a whole list of errands I need to run today:

  • Library to pick up a couple of books being held
  • Post office to check the P.O. box and buy stamps
  • Grocery store for food for next week
  • T. J. Maxx for another rug for the back door
  • Bath & Body Works to spend my $10 off $25 coupon

Bob doesn't want me to go out by myself, though, and since he's off today, he says he's going to chauffeur me around. I'm not sure how well that's going to work. The grocery store might be okay, but the rest of the places I need to go are places where I like to wander and look and spend some time. I think we're also going to go to the hospital and maybe to the wholesale club.

So we'll see. I may end up doing the vital stuff today with him and doing the fun stuff tomorrow by myself, assuming we don't get more snow. I don't think we're supposed to.

Snow

Later:

We went to the hospital (just checked in briefly, Bob's mother and sister were there, and a nurse, and a student nurse/sitter, which was plenty of people for that small room, so we just said hello, then left), went to T. J. Maxx where I bought another rug, and we looked at luggage--we need to get new luggage before we go to Mexico, the kind with an extendable handle and wheels--then Bob took me to lunch at Chili's, then he brought me home and he went back out to Barley's, to sit and watch the basketball game (K.U.) and have a couple of beers.

The roads are all pretty clear, and it's warming up, so I guess he figured he could let me loose.

So I'm off to do the rest of my errands.
