Well, it wasn't okay. The thing was still there. Every time I rebooted the computer,
it reinstalled itself. Very annoying. I did some research on it last night, and figured out
what it was, and found several sites giving instrutions for removing it--a regular
virus
scan won't do it. It sounded like this was the perfect solution, but the website where
the solution (a downloadable application) could be found wasn't loading.
I eventually found a site that was hosting an earlier version of the application, so this
morning I downloaded that and tried it, but without success. I thought at first that it
had worked, because it found and deleted a couple of things, but then once I rebooted, it
came back.
But the IT guy at the client site came up with the most recent version and sent it to us,
and that did work, thank goodness.
I'm not going to mention what the problem (or solution) was here, because I don't want to
worry about keeping the link updated, and I don't want this page show up
on search engines. But if anyone is having a problem with something that sounds like
what I described yesterday, email me and I'll tell you what worked for me.
