Monday, December 10 , 2001 - Lake Buena Vista, Florida: Mendhi

Packing didn't go badly at all on Friday night. I spent a lot of time walking up and down the stairs, though, doing laundry, taking dirty clothes downstairs, washing them, then taking clean ones back upstairs, and a lot of time moving cats out of the suitcases, but I was basically finished by about 10:00. I spent a couple of hours piddling around, remembering various small things that I meant to take with me and sticking them in the suitcase pockets, and being sure I had everything in my purse that I was going to need.

I was in bed by midnight, and I slept pretty well, only waking once that I remember, to write down something that I had forgotten (that I have already forgotten again).

The trip down was long, but fairly uneventful. There was evidence of heightened security at the airports, but Kansas City International wasn't terribly busy, so by getting there two hours early, as they recommended, we ended up with about two hours' worth of time to waste before the plane took off. We saw a couple of National Guardsmen patrolling the hallways, and my mother-in-law had her purse searched, but that was the extent of the impact.

When we landed in Atlanta to change planes, I assumed we would have to go through security again, but Bob reminded me that we were already in the terminal, so we didn't have to, which was nice.

We finally got to the hotel around 8:00, checked in, went out to dinner, then went to town to the grocery store for snacks and provisions, getting to bed around midnight. A long day.

We had a good day today--Barb took pictures of me with Tigger, Pooh, and Piglet (I didn't take my camera with me, so there aren't any digital ones, we'll have to wait for them), I saw a wonderful parade at Epcot--the "Tapestry of Dreams" parade--and got a Mendhi tattoo. It looks kind of scary now, but hopefully it will look better tomorrow after I can wash the paste off and treat it with olive oil (which necessitated another trip into town to the grocery store).

Bob's trying to sleep right now--he has to get up at 6:00 in the morning to play golf--so I'm going to stop clicking on the keys. More tomorrow.
