What a full day! I'm not sure that I accomplished a lot, but I had a good day, and it felt
really busy. Like most of my Saturdays are, though. I pack a full week's worth of
errands into one day a week--I used to do part of it on Sunday, and sometimes I still do,
but lately I've tended to mostly stay home on Sundays, which is probably as it should be.
I started out kind of late today. Bob's out of town--he's at the lake with some friends--and
when he's gone, it's easier for me to sleep late. I didn't sleep that late, only
until about 9:00, but I started slow.
I had stayed up fairly late last night. I did my usual Friday night thing: I picked up Chinese food
from the grocery store (I was so happy last night--they had chicken with black bean
sauce, which they haven't had for awhile), then came home and watched television: two
episodes of Law and Order: SVU and Touching Evil. While I watched, I
knitted, and most of the first sleeve of a sweater I'm knitting.
This morning I got interested in crocheting a bag out of some yarn I had in my stash, but
then tonight I ended up ripping it out . . .
In between I scrambled some eggs for my breakfast, went to the bank and the post office,
went to the gym and worked out, then sat in the whirlpool and sauna, and felt so
good when I was finished. I walked out into the sun and just felt absolutely great. I
never take the time to do the whirlpool or sauna when I go in the evenings, but I'm trying
to make it a habit to do it on Saturdays.
Let's see, what else . . . I went to WalMart and bought geraniums. When I left the house
this morning I went into the back yard to look around, and saw that I already have poppies
blooming--well, one. I came back into the house and got the camera and took a
picture, but I'm too tired right now to go get it and download the picture. Tomorrow.
But it made me anxious for flowers, and I decided to at least get a couple of geraniums
for the pots on the front porch.
And I got a Spring-y windsock to hang on the porch, and a couple of new pairs of gardening
gloves--I love good gardening gloves--and a watering "wand" to fit on the garden
hose.
Tonight I went out to Chipotlé and picked up a chicken burrito bol, read while I
ate, crocheted some on my little bag, then ripped it out, and we've come full circle.
I think I've given myself a knitting injury.
I'm knitting a cardigan sweater on Size 10 needles, larger than I usually use, much
larger than the needles I use to knit socks. And there's a muscle in the front of my
right shoulder that's been twinging me, and that's partly the reason why I did the
whirlpool today. The main reason is relaxation, but the shoulder is part of it, as is
my often-achy lower back.
I'm too anxious to finish the sweater to stop knitting altogether, although I suppose I
should. I guess I could switch to knitting socks for awhile and see if the pain stops.
It's not like I'm going to be wearing the sweater anytime soon, anyway. Not that I'll
be wearing wool socks, though, either.
We seem to have gone directly from winter to summer--it was probably right around 85
degrees today. I'm not complaining, though. I try never to complain about the heat;
it seems ungrateful, when I complain about the cold so much. But having it turn into
summer so quickly, like flipping a switch, seems odd. Last week we had a frost warning;
this week everyone showed up at work in shorts and I turned on the air conditioning in
my car. Welcome to Kansas.
