3/30/97 - Another Cajun Dream

An elderly black man, a Cajun musician named Arcenot, is in my bedroom tuning his guitar. He asks me to go out to his car and get his computer. I ask him if the car is locked, and he says no. In the meantime, Michael Doucet is in the living room getting ready to play. I don't want to miss any of that, but I go out to the car anyway, knowing that Arcenot is a very respected musician and, besides, he's an old man and I should accommodate him. I figure I can hear any music I might miss through the windows. I can't find the "computer" in the car--it's an old car and the back seat is filled with old things, lots of car parts, rubber gaskets, metal things. It's dark and I can't see anything very well, so I feel around with my hands, but I don't feel anything that seems to be a computer.

I go back in the house and sit near Michael, all the while thinking about how I will write about this in my journal:

Michael Doucet came over last night about 1:00 and played the guitar for us for awhile . . ."

Interpretation of "Another Cajun Dream":

THIS DREAM SEEMS FILLED WITH DARK AND MAGICAL IMAGERY. THE SHADOW FIGURE AS THE OLD BLACK MAN, A CAJUN, SEEMS ON THE SURFACE TO REPRESENT DARK MAGICAL PROPERTIES. HE WANTS YOU TO FIND HIS COMPUTER. WHAT IS THE COMPUTER TO YOU? DOES IT REPRESENT YOUR ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE TO YOURSELF AND THE OUTSIDE WORLD? DOES IT REPRESENT MODERN MAGIC? IN ANY CASE, THE OLD MAN'S CAR WAS ALSO A DARK SYMBOL, FILLED WITH OLD STUFF, BUT NO COMPUTER. THEREFORE YOU COULD NOT HELP HIM. I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE MUSICIAN YOU MENTIONED EXCEPT TO ASSUME THIS IS A REAL PERSON. I AM MORE INTRIGUED BY THE STRANGE NAME OF THE OLD CAJUN MAN. ARCENOT SEEMS LIKE AN ANAGRAM RATHER THAN A REAL NAME. I WISH I HAD ONE OF THOSE HAND HELD WORD GAME COMPUTERS TO RUN THIS NAME THRU IT. I BELIEVE THAT THE NAME OF THE CAJUN IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE COMPUTER OR THE OTHER MUSICIAN. AN INTERPERTATION OF THE NAME MAY BE THE REAL MAGIC IN THIS DREAM.

Interpretation of "Another Cajun Dream":

I think this dream exemplifies how influential music is to your soul, Willa. We've all noticed how sometimes you express a deep admiration for your favorite music/musicians in your writings, and I think this Arcenot stands as a manifestation of that admiration. I think it's very significant that he was given recognition by being honored with a name, as this recognition designates him respect ...and you yourself even say he's a very respected musician. So, i.e., I feel the manifestation of Arcenot is exemplifying how strongly you appreciate what music gives or offers you from within.

I guess, technically, what it was that generated him was ego, but apparently it was a very subtle, yet highly motivated one, which seems to have ties with an aspect of your higher self. Maybe that's why he felt he should be designated a name?

Just what is Arcenot, exactly? Musicians' life-styles and their music offer us unique ways of being able to develop relationships/bonds with their work ...as, for example, when we relate deeply to some aspect of their lyrics. They can be very influential and mood-invoking, to say the least, and I feel that this Arcenot/ego has picked up and understood this special sense of correlation between music and emotions, and is expressing his appreciation of these emotional relationships with his presence/manifestation. He could even be the one responsible for generating the very emotions which support these musical admirations. To Arcenot (I believe) these emotional encounters with music are *very* meaningful.

I wouldn't be too surprised if you experience strong senses of dejavos that are associated with many of your past musical preferences, as I think we've all done this from time to time, and especially when we hear an old song we were familiar with during youth or something. Arcenot is probably close-by awaiting to interact and experience opportunities like these, so that he can involve himself with you on a higher plane. Arcenot could be a sort of mood-invoker, and perhaps even possess abilities capable of invoking emotions such as love and the like. He must originate from some central aspect of the psyche that carries great weight/validity.

Overall, this dream suggests you possess a lot of wholeness. Perhaps, from now on, when you sense those reminiscent feelings from songs/lyrics, you should consider giving old Arcenot a little credit!
